First let me say this, I did not exactly draw these images.  I used preexisting art and traced over them to get my concept out faster.  Captain Mar-Vell was a Captain Marvel drawing by Mike McKone.  The others I am afraid I don't know, but I do plan to get my own art with this concept done soon.

So here are my ideas for the Captain Marvel movie that Marvel studios should make.
They are already introducing the Kree aliens in the movies so their costumes might end up changing the look of everything.  But my concept is that it all starts with Carol Danvers and ends with Carol Danvers.
The movie begins much like Thor, where she already has powers and is in her armor.  She is fighting a Kree Sentry Sentinel.  Then we flash back to how it all began.  She is a former SHIELD agent who is transfered to SWORD, a branch of SHIELD created because of Thor, Loki, and the Invasion of New York (from Avengers 1).  Their mission is to detect and prevent alien attacks, much like SHIELD is for superhuman attacks.  During her duties she meets Kree Captain Mar-Vell, who is either on the run from or is hunting a rogue band of Kree Soldiers led by Yon-Rogg.  (I like the idea that he is on the run because it could lead to the concept of him having a child with the Skrull Princess and lead to Hulkling showing up in the movies.  Scott Lang is already in the Ant Man films, his daughter Cassie becomes Stature.  We have Scarlet Witch in Avengers 2, could lead to her twin sons.  But I digress.)
Over the coarse of the film Carol and Mar-Vell get to know each other better.  We find out about Mar-Vell's past and maybe about his son.  We find out about Carol's past as well.  And the two form a bond and maybe a romance.  We also find out about the Kree culture.  About their technology, their interference with the Earth's evolution, etc.
(I am unsure how the Kree will be in the Guardians of the Galaxy film, but in my concept their armor is like a super duper high tech version of Stark's iron Man armor.  Its fitted to their Kree DNA and allows them to have super strength, flight, energy blasts, and absorb energy as well.  etc.)
The movie has a set up similar to Thor in that she has no powers for most of the film, showing she is more than her powers.  She is a well trained SHIELD agents just like Coulson or Black Widow.  While she may not have powers Mar-Vell does.  He is Captain Marvel.  Its also set up like Terminator 1, with her being the Sarah Connor character and Mar-Vell being the Reese character.  She is the star, but he is the soldier hero guy and just like in that film Mar-Vell ends up sacrificing his life to save the day.  He transfers his DNA to Carol allowing her to use his armor (or giving her his powers) before he dies and she becomes Captain Marvel.  Just like in Thor this happens with enough time left to show her in full super glory for the rest of the film fighting the Sentry robot and the Kree soldiers still standing.
The movie would end with her having to stop a giant Kree Sentry Sentinel robot that is now destroying randomly.  This is where the film started.  She defeats it and saves everyone in the city.  When asked who she is, and if she is Asguardian or a new Iron Man etc, she tells them she is Captain Marvel in honor of her fallen friend.

The designs are meant to fit in with the rest of the Avengers.  The armor part is like Iron Man's suit only smaller and thinner and lighter.  The cloth parts are like Thor's cloth parts to his costume.  I tried to merge or reference many different Captain Marvel designs to her armor.  Including the original Captain Mar-Vell with his roman helmet look.  The Ultimate Mar-Vell which was used in the cartoons recently.  Carol's old and new looks, etc.

Carol would end up being as important status wise and power wise as Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, or Fury.  She is a strong character and could become Marvel's first leading female hero.
